Dan Emery is a Suffolk based artist who has worked professionally, teaching and painting for the last 30 years in England, France and Italy. His work has evolved over the years from bold brightly coloured landscapes of the Lot Valley and Dordogne regions in South West France, to the more restrained, abstract images based on the East Anglian coastline.
‘My paintings start with compositions based on local landscapes and evolve into images that retain elements of the landscape, whether it be the colours, textures, shapes or simply a sense of the place; its atmosphere, light or reflections.’
Dan was taught by local printmaker, Ed Wilson and went on to study Fine Art in Manchester during the 1980s. His work is influenced by artists such as Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron and Peter Lanyon.
